was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 a.m., when an elderly gentleman in his
80′s, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in
a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.
A colleague asked me if I know how to limit the return data set in SQL (Oracle and MySQL). I did a search for Oracle, ya, it is correct to use ROWNUM internal variable to achieve that.
When I was cleaning up the database at the backend, by mistake I dropped the entire database ! That’s a real disaster. Though my cousin (the host service provider) has backup up to 2 days back, I lost 3-4 blogs I posted on March 28 and March 29.
In large organizations, there usually multiple web instances/environments to work with different project phases (i.e. dev/tst/uat/prd). In our current configurations, we have dev/tst/uat hosting in one physical server, and pro environment has its own dedicated server. The newer version of CVS all support accessing CVS respository via proxy through http-tunneling. This requires the proxy server support “http-tunneling” for port 2401.
My windows XP-SP2 machine encountered an error that nobody can open any application, even as administrator. The error message shows “The operation is cancelled because of the access right due on effect”.

Ensembl has new releases every month. The databases names changed, so we have to re-grant all user privileges for all the 30-40 databases. That’s quite tedious.

I used to add a piece of javascript for each template so that my site is tracked by google analytics. It is kinda tedious. Now there is a mambot for it. Though it is a french mambot, it is easy to use and really works
